Detroit-based Sharrow Engineering and its marine division, Sharrow Marine, are expanding into a new 60,000-square-foot manufacturing facility at Eastland Commerce Center in Harper Woods, once the site of the Eastland Shopping Center.
The expansion more than triples the company’s production footprint, enabling Sharrow to scale its manufacturing capacity to up to 2,000 units per month to meet global demand for its Sharrow Propeller.
The Eastland Commerce Center is a modern industrial campus that spans more than 1 million square feet on the site of the former shopping center that borders Harper Woods High School and Johnston Memorial Park.
The facility is expected to be fully operational by December 2025, with production starting in September 2025. The expansion complements the company’s recent relocation of its headquarters to Newlab at Michigan Central in Detroit’s Corktown neighborhood.
“This expansion is a powerful statement about the future of propulsion technology and American manufacturing,” says Greg Sharrow, founder and CEO of Sharrow Engineering. “We’re proud to grow our footprint in Detroit and continue building the most advanced propellers the world has ever seen.
“By investing in local talent and cutting-edge facilities, we’re positioned to bring the same transformation to aerospace, defense, and energy that we already brought to the marine industry. It’s an exciting new chapter as we set out to redefine what’s possible in propulsion on a global scale.”
The Sharrow Propeller has received global recognition for its design, which is said to deliver “dramatic” improvements in fuel efficiency, range, handling, and noise reduction compared to traditional propellers. With more than 160 patents worldwide, the Sharrow Propeller is becoming the “preferred choice” for performance-driven boat owners, commercial operators, and defense customers worldwide, according to the company.
To support the expansion, Sharrow is hiring skilled workers, engineers, and technicians, contributing to the revitalization of metro Detroit’s manufacturing sector and creating high-quality local jobs.
