Ford Road growth continues in Canton. Here’s 9 projects to know about

Developers and businesses are finding new opportunities along one of the region’s busiest commercial corridors as the ever-busy Ford Road in Canton continues to grow and evolve.
Some current projects involve redeveloping longtime businesses and vacant buildings, while others see developers grabbing up the few remaining properties available along the three mile stretch.
Here’s a look at what’s currently proposed, planned or moving forward along Ford Road.
- Township officials say a grocery store is planned for the former CVS at 42433 Ford Road. Could it be a Trader Joe’s? The company had this to say: “At this time, we do have plans for a store in Canton in the next couple of years, but we do not have a location to confirm,” wrote Nakia Rohde, public relations manager for Trader Joe’s. Schostak Brothers & Company, which owns the Canton Corners shopping center, shows a “lease pending” status on its website for the former CVS property, but is mum on details for the 12,309 square-foot space.
- Black Rock Bar & Grill at 41601 Ford Road, which closed in December 2025, is seeing interest from multiple potential users and developers. Randy Thomas, president and CEO of Insite Commercial, said several offers are currently on the table, with some users interested in repurposing the site and others looking at redevelopment potential. At 3.3 acres, Thomas said the property is larger than most sites available on the corridor.
- The Bowery Grille & Pub site at 41275 Ford Road is proposed to be redeveloped into a multi-tenant building that includes a Bayt al Mocha coffee shop with a drive-through. Plans presented at a June 1 Canton Township Planning Commission meeting call for a drive-through restaurant on the east end of the building, and an additional tenant on the west side. Bowery Owner Ron Ayyash said he couldn’t yet discuss the project while plans are pending, but the business remains open.
- The former Bob Evans at 41190 Ford Road, which closed in November 2025 after 47 years, could be redeveloped into a new drive-through restaurant. A concept plan and rezoning request shows the building being demolished and replaced with a double drive-through. The future user has not been announced, and additional township approvals are still needed.
- The Shoppes on Ford is a proposed four-tenant retail development on the north side of Ford Road between Lilley and Haggerty roads, near Ikea. The project hasn’t broken ground but is already being marketed by CMP Real Estate Group.
- A Sheetz gas station is proposed at the southwest corner of Ford and Lotz roads. The proposed development includes a 6,139-square-foot building with eight multi-pump fuel dispensers and 24-hour food and beverage options. The project is still in the review phase, but a company representative said Sheetz is working with local officials to move the proposal forward.
- Beyond Juicery + Eatery at 42645 Ford Road, plans to open this summer, a company spokesperson said. The company bills itself as a health-focused quick service restaurant offering a range of fresh juices, smoothies, wraps, salads, and more, emphasizing nourishment and taste.
- Fire Bowl Mongolian Stir-Fry & Ramen appears to be setting up shop in the former BD’s Mongolian Grill location at 42089 Ford Road. BD’s closed earlier this year.
- A proposed Topgolf, Chick-fil-A and Portillo’s development stalled more than a year ago after the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy denied a wetlands permit tied to the project. Developer Steve Robinson said he believes the two restaurants will eventually be built. Meanwhile, Chick-fil-A could find a spot elsewhere on Ford Road. Canton Township Supervisor Anne Marie Graham-Hudak previously said Chick-fil-A is currently working with the township planning department to find an alternate location. “They’re insistent on being on Ford Road,” she said. “It’s the place to be.”
And finally, the former Value City Furniture space at 42595 Ford Road is shown on the Schostak Brothers and Company website as the only available space in the Canton Corners Shopping Center. Second only to neighboring Hobby Lobby in size, the space became available with Value City closed all locations earlier this year.
