Former Days Inn property sold to Canadian investment firm

A problematic property in East Toledo is ready to turn over a new leaf.

The five-acre lot containing the former Days Inn at 1800 Miami St. near I-75 and the Hollywood Casino, was sold in an online auction ending Thursday for $1,184,500.

RM International Group, an investment company based in Canada, placed the winning bid, Jasdeep Sohi, the property’s realtor, said.

“They are planning to renovate, bringing this to a higher standard and making it a safe and comfortable place for the guests,” Ms. Sohi said, mentioning that the group not only wants to keep the property as a hotel, but wants to bring in a franchise restaurant to occupy the space in the building formerly held by Jill’s Bar and Grill.

“They want to make it a main stop on the highway,” Ms. Sohi said.

The two-day sale was conducted through Ten-X Auctions and a collaboration of a team of realtors with the California-based real estate firm Marcus and Millichap.

In December, 2020, the property was subject of a lawsuit filed by the city of Toledo because of an excess of crime and numerous incidents on the premises, which resulted in over 180 calls to police across a period between January 2018 and November, 2020, Toledo Municipal Court records said.

The property was then condemned to close in September, 2021.

The building was constructed in 1967 and was sold to its previous owner, Toledo Nights Inc. in 1995.
