Four Logistics Businesses Open in New Romulus Industrial Park, Add Nearly 2,000 Jobs

Four logistics business, LaserShip, Pitney Bowes, Hearn Industrial Services, and DHL, have opened at the Ecorse Commons Industrial Park at 37350 Ecorse Rd. in Romulus. The park was put together by NorthPoint Development.

As a result of the construction and post-construction staffing, 1,973 new jobs were created, and the four businesses currently there are expected to produce more than $440,000 in annual tax revenue and $15 million in payroll revenue, according to the City of Romulus.

The logistics companies are the first four companies to move into the new 654,887 square foot industrial space located on 68 acres of land adjacent to the General Motors Powertrain Plant and near the Ford Wayne Assembly plant. It was developed in partnership with Kansas City-based Northpoint Development.

“Romulus has the vision to know that capital access, jobs, and development are a good thing for their community,” says Brent Miles, chief marketing officer at NorthPoint Development in Riverside, Mo., north of Kansas City. “I can stand here today and say that we are proud to partner with the City of Romulus on the development and announcement of Ecorse Commons. Romulus is an up-and-coming community, and NorthPoint is pleased to be the jet fuel.”

The four business openings are a result of the FAST TRACK program — designed to streamline the review and planning process — launched by the city that has seen 30 new businesses in the last 18 months as a result. Amazon recently opened a 850,000 square foot facility using the program, and Kroger Cos. is building a $95-million, 135,000-square-foot automated customer fulfillment center.

“We’re thrilled to welcome LaserShip, Pitney Bowes, Hearn Industrial Services, and DHL to the Ecorse Commons Industrial Park and we look forward to continuing to see the positive impact these new businesses have already had on our community’s local economy and workforce,” says Romulus Mayor LeRoy D. Burcroff. “We strive to be a business-friendly community because we know developments such as the ones announced today will not only have a tremendous impact on Romulus’ economy, but on the region and state’s economy as well.”
