Hart, Inc., a Toledo-based advertising and brand management agency, has acquired Rebuild, an agency headquartered in Detroit.

“Detroit embodies a spirit of reinvention which, in my mind, aligns perfectly with our vision here at Hart,” said agency owner Mike Hart. “The city has literally remade itself. I was driving down Woodward Avenue at night, and the beauty there gave me goosebumps. The talent pool and entrepreneurial energy was amazing. We see great opportunities to contribute to the revitalization of Detroit.”

Founded in 2012, Rebuild specializes in developing the creative strategy that’s essential for connective brand campaigns. The agency is located in Detroit’s Milwaukee Junction neighborhood.

“When Josh [Gershonowicz] and I created Rebuild, we had a vision of building an agency the right way in the right location, delivering experiences to elevate brands,” said Steve DeAngelis, the agency’s co-founder. “Being a part of the Hart family does not change that vision; in fact, it is enhanced. When others are deciding that Detroit isn’t for them, Hart is doubling down on this city. This is an agency for this moment.”

Mr. Gershonowicz, Rebuild’s CEO, concurs.

“Hart is a natural partner, and one that can address many of the challenges facing both brands and our collective agency,” he said. “This is a win for Detroit, for our partners and for our communities. I could not be more excited for what is to come for this city.”

Mr. Hart noted that Rebuild has a strong mix of clients they’ve represented for a long time. The agency has worked with well-known brands such as Jeep, Homedics, Hungry Howie’s, Equifax, and the Henry Ford Health System. He is bullish on how the two agencies will integrate with each other.

“They’re only going to complement what we do and help us do it better,” he said. “Being in Detroit will open the door to an incredible pool of talent among the people who live and work there. The agency biz is going through a huge transformation in Detroit now. A lot of the agencies there have changed recently, and a lot of good people are looking for new professional homes.”

With the acquisition of Rebuild, Hart will have offices in Toledo, Detroit, Columbus, and Washington and will employ nearly 100 people.

A lifelong fan of Detroit baseball, Mr. Hart could not be more pleased with the opportunity the merger will afford him to spend more time at Comerica Park.
