Satelytics moving to Perrysburg, adding jobs

An innovative satellite imagery company is expanding its business into Perrysburg.

Satelytics, which was based on the University of Toledo campus, is now hiring for a new location at Levis Commons near the Funny Bone. The firm is adding 38 jobs and about $1 million in new annual payroll.

CEO Sean Donegan said the company wants to continue growing, as the new facility will provide three times the space.

“We are thrilled to enter this next phase of scaling the business at our new home in Perrysburg,” Mr. Donegan said. “The key to our footprint in northwest Ohio is our people. We want to continue to build this collaborative culture and encourage our new team members to place roots in the area. This new location will allow us to better showcase talent and attract recruits with the welcoming surroundings of northwest Ohio. In fact, we are already working towards relocating a new team member into the area from out of state.”

Regional Growth Partnership, JobsOhio, the Wood County Economic Development Commission, and the city of Perrysburg worked together to attract the company. Mr. Donegan said other options were considered, including out-of-state locations.

JobsOhio president and CEO J.P. Nauseef noted the collaboration was key in attracting Satelytics.

“Software innovation is rapidly growing nationwide, and Ohio is leading the way with the kind of talent that Satelytics will be hiring in Northwest Ohio,” Mr. Nauseef said.

Satelytics has seen steady growth in the last few years. The software company uses the infrared spectrum to identify problems for major companies like BP, Marathon Petroleum, and the Southern Company.

The company utilizes satellites, drones, planes, and fixed cameras to scan for issues such as oil leaks and algal blooms in the oil, water, and gas industries.

“These are some of the biggest challenges customers in those industries face,” Mr. Donegan said. “They have thousands of miles of infrastructure and we can detect changes and give them warnings. We save our customers millions of dollars and get ahead of problems before they fester.”

The company was founded as a start-up in 2009 out of Bowling Green State University. Mr. Donegan said there are many BGSU graduates working at the firm.

“There’s a team here that’s incredibly talented,” he said. “A lot of our employees come from [this area]. You don’t have to be on the coasts to find good, smart people.”

Hiring for scientists, software professionals, data scientists, artificial intelligence experts, sales professionals, and support personnel positions will begin immediately.
