The area near Celebration Cinema North is full of construction equipment and fences for multiple large projects.

A hotel, Starbucks and other developments are in the works there.

Construction hasn’t yet begun on a new 250-unit apartment building planned near Celebration Cinema North off East Beltline Avenue in Grand Rapids, but the plans have been finalized. To the north of the movie theater, a Hilton Home 2 Suites hotel is planned.

Nearby in the spot of a former Chili’s restaurant near the HopCat restaurant, two multi-tenant retail buildings are in the works.

Back in 2019, the Grand Rapids Planning Commission approved plans for a four-story, 107-room Holiday Inn Express hotel near Celebration Cinema, at 3178 Peregrine Dr. NE. Though those plans fell through during the COVID-19 pandemic, another developer decided to build a Hilton Home 2 Suites of a similar size in nearly the same spot.

The Hilton hotel, which is geared toward extended stay guests, is being built at 3082 Peregrine Dr. NE, still north of the movie theater. The site of the hotel is 2.99 acres. Plans for the hotel show 107 rooms with outdoor patio areas and bicycle parking. A total of 119 parking spaces are planned for the hotel.

The hotel rooms will include kitchenettes and refrigerators. Planning documents show the hotel is expected to be completed in October.

At the former location of Chili’s, 2135 E. Beltline Ave. NE, development company Grand Rapids Retail Management II, LLC, is building two facilities. The first building will be a WellNow Urgent Care facility, which will be open from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. According to planning documents approved by the city of Grand Rapids last May, the urgent care will employ between six and 10 people. The urgent care will be 4,288 square feet.

The second building, which is planned to have an outdoor patio and fireplace, has room for two retail tenants. One of those tenants is expected to be Starbucks.

The building will be a total of 3,995 square feet, with an 892-square-foot outdoor seating area for the Starbucks.

Both the urgent care and the retail building are being built on a 1.44-acre site, with 75 shared parking spaces. The additional retail space, which does not yet have a tenant, is 1,491 square feet.
